한국의 서울에서 1979년에 태어난 이대원은 한국의 대표적 랜드마크인 한강을 관찰하고 기록하는 예술가로서 2009년부터 서울과 경기도 일대에서 작업을 이어오고 있다. 그의 한강 기록은 단순한 풍경 사진을 넘어, 삶의 무상함과 반복, 그리고 도시 속 자연과 인공의 공존을 사유하는 시각적 데이터로 확장되었다. 그의 작업은 단편적인 이미지 몇 장으로 설명되지 않으며, 관람객은 하나의 주제 아래 끝없이 파생되는 방대한 아카이브를 마주하게 된다. 특정 장면의 극적인 순간보다는 시간의 밀도와 축적된 변화에 주목한다는 점에서 그의 사진은 고유한 차별성을 지닌다.
디지털카메라를 적극적으로 활용하여 한강의 모습을 독창적인 시선으로 아카이빙하고 있으며, 이 방대한 기록을 강의 발원지부터 바다에 이르는 여정으로 확장하는 것을 지속적인 목표로 삼고 있다.
그는 개인전 ‘이대원 한강 사진전'(2025, 서울)과 기획전 ‘꿈결 같은 한강'(2025, 제주)에 참여하며 활동 영역을 확장하고 있다. 또한 그의 작업은 ‘[C컷] 꿈속 같은 한강 풍경은 어떻게 찍었나'(2025년 2월 28일 조선일보), ‘[사진 한 잔] 한강'(2025년 7월 26일 중앙일보), 문학동네 한국 문학전집 전권 표지사진(2014) 등 각종 보도 매체와 출판물을 통해 꾸준히 소개되고 있다.

Born in 1979 in Seoul, Korea, Lee Dae-won is an artist who observes and documents the Hangang River, one of Korea’s most iconic landmarks. Since 2009, he has been working across Seoul and Gyeonggi Province. His work extends beyond simple landscape photography into a form of visual data that reflects on impermanence, repetition, and the coexistence of nature and the artificial within the urban environment. His practice cannot be explained through a few individual images; instead, viewers encounter a vast archive that continuously expands under a unified theme. His work is distinguished by its focus on the density of time and accumulated change rather than on dramatic moments.
Actively utilizing digital cameras, he archives the Hangang through his own distinctive perspective. His ongoing goal is to expand this extensive body of work into a journey that traces the river from its source to the sea.
He has presented his work in the solo exhibition Lee Dae-won Hangang Photography Exhibition (2025, Seoul) and the group exhibition Dreamlike Hangang (2025, Jeju). His work has also been featured in various media and publications, including [C-Cut] How Were These Dreamlike Hangang Scenes Captured? (The Chosun Daily, February 28, 2025), A Cup of Photography: Hangang (Korea JoongAng Daily, July 26, 2025), as well as the complete cover series of the Munhakdongne Korean Literature Collection (2014).
