이대원은 1979년 서울에서 태어나 한강을 중심으로 작업해 온 사진가다. 그는 한국인들에게 신성한 상징으로 여겨지는 한강을 통해 한국 사회와 삶의 본질을 탐구한다. 2009년부터 한강을 오가며 강의 유동적인 변화와 시간의 흐름을 기록해왔으며, 감성적 재현을 넘어 축적과 관찰의 태도로 강을 아카이빙해왔다.
16년에 걸친 기록은 단순한 풍경 사진을 넘어, 삶의 무상함과 반복, 그리고 존재의 흐름을 사유하는 시각적 데이터로 확장된다. 그의 작업은 특정 장면의 극적 순간보다 시간의 밀도와 축적된 변화에 주목한다는 점에서 차별성을 갖는다.
2025년 서울 싸우나스튜디오에서 열린 개인전 《이대원 한강 사진전 (오픈 스튜디오)》에서는 사진과 영상 작업을 함께 선보이며, 한강을 다층적 구조로 제시했다. 같은 해 제주 주주갤러리에서 열린 《꿈결 같은 한강》에도 참여하며 활동 영역을 확장했다.
그의 작업은 2025년 2월 28일 조선일보 「[C컷] 꿈속같은 한강은 어떻게 찍었나」, 2025년 7월 26일 중앙일보 「[사진 한 잔] 한강」 등을 통해 소개되었다.
이대원의 지속적인 목표는 이 방대한 한강 아카이브를 강의 발원지에서 바다까지 확장하는 것이다.

2025 이대원 한강 사진전 (오픈 스튜디오), 싸우나스튜디오, 서울
전시 내용: 한강(漢江)을 주제로 16년간 촬영한 사진과 영상 작품을 선보인 전시. 포트폴리오북과 작가의 사진이 표지로 사용된 문학 전집을 함께 전시하여 한강에 대한 다층적인 시각을 제시함.
전시 규모: 옛 목욕탕 건물을 리모델링한 약 100평 규모의 공간 곳곳에 액자, 영상, 빔프로젝터 등을 활용하여 작품을 입체적으로 구성함.

Since 2009, I have been documenting the Han River through photography and video.
BIO
Lee Dae-won (b. 1979, Seoul) is a photographer whose work centers on the Hangang River. Through the river—regarded as a sacred and symbolic presence for many Koreans—he explores questions of essence, time, and impermanence within contemporary Korean society.
Since 2009, Lee has continuously documented the river’s shifting landscapes and fluid transformations. Moving beyond emotional depiction, he approaches the Hangang as a long-term archive, grounded in observation, accumulation, and duration. His practice emphasizes the density of time rather than dramatic moments, positioning the river as both subject and evolving data.
In 2025, he presented his solo exhibition Lee Dae-won Hangang Photo Exhibition (Open Studio) at Sauna Studio in Seoul, showcasing photographs and video works that framed the river in a multi-layered structure. The same year, he participated in Dreamlike Hangang at Juju Gallery in Jeju.
His work has been featured in major Korean newspapers, including The Chosun Ilbo (February 28, 2025) and JoongAng Ilbo (July 26, 2025).
Lee’s ongoing goal is to expand his Hangang archive from the river’s source to the sea.
Solo Exhibition
2025 DaeWon Lee, Han River Photo Exhibition (Open Studio), SSSAUNA Studio, Seoul
Exhibition Description: This exhibition showcased photographs and videos of the Han
River, created over 16 years. It presented a multi-layered perspective on the river by
featuring not only the works themselves but also a portfolio book and a collection of
Korean literary works with the artist’s photographs used as covers.
Venue: A remodeled public bathhouse of approximately 330 square meters. The works
were three-dimensionally arranged throughout the space using frames, videos, and
projectors.
