특별한 조명을 사용하지 않고 촬영한다. 대부분 태양에서 오는 자연광을 이용하며, 새벽이나 밤에는 가로등과 같은 도시의 인공조명이 장면을 만든다. 한강에는 자연광과 인공광, 두 가지의 빛이 존재한다. 달빛도 있지만 도시의 밝은 조명 속에서는 그 모습을 드러내기 쉽지 않다.

하늘에 떠 있는 태양이 강물을 비추거나, 구름 사이로 빛이 퍼져 나가는 순간을 자주 마주한다. 이러한 장면들은 주로 비나 눈이 지나간 뒤 구름이 걷히는 시간에 나타난다. 구름 사이로 열린 빛은 강물 위에 떨어져 공간을 새롭게 드러낸다.

빛은 늘 같은 곳에 머무르지 않는다. 계절과 시간에 따라 끊임없이 변한다. 매년 같은 계절과 같은 시간에 강을 찾아 그 변화를 바라본다. 해가 지고 도시의 조명이 하나둘 켜지면 또 다른 빛이 강 위에 나타난다.

나는 이 두 가지의 빛을 좋아한다. 자연에서 내려오는 빛과 도시가 만들어 내는 빛, 그리고 비가 지나간 직후 떠오르는 광원을 특히 좋아한다. 그 순간의 빛은 언제나 한강을 이전과 다른 공간으로 바꾸어 놓기 때문이다.

I photograph without using special lighting. Most of my work relies on natural light from the sun, while at dawn or at night the scene is sometimes shaped by artificial lights such as street lamps. Along the Han River, there are therefore two kinds of light: natural light and artificial light. Moonlight exists as well, but within the brightness of the city it is often difficult to reveal.

I often encounter moments when the sun shines down on the river or when light spreads through gaps in the clouds. These scenes usually appear after rain or snow, when the clouds begin to clear. Light opening through the clouds falls onto the surface of the river and reveals the space in a new way.

Light never remains in the same place. It constantly changes with the seasons and with time. Each year I return to the river in the same seasons and at similar times of day, observing these changes.
When the sun sets and the city lights begin to turn on one by one, another kind of light emerges over the river.

I am drawn to both kinds of light: the light that comes from nature and the light created by the city. I am especially drawn to the light that appears just after the rain has passed. In those moments, the light transforms the Han River into a completely different space.
